EMDR VR
EMDR VR is a project I lead that helps people overcome phobias and process traumatic experiences, including PTSD, through virtual reality therapy.
What EMDR VR does
The programme uses evidence-based EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), delivered in a safe, immersive virtual environment where users self-administer their treatment. A single protocol works across diverse phobia types.
It is designed for therapy clinics, NHS services, veterans and emergency services, and hospitals.
Clinical evidence
EMDR VR is clinically validated with published research. Our prospective feasibility study showed large effect sizes, with every participant dropping below the clinical threshold by the end of treatment, and no adverse effects reported:
- 67% reduction in symptom severity
- 94% treatment completion rate
- 0 adverse effects reported
- 5 sessions to results
Read more in my posts on the published study and the feasibility study, or see the papers on the publications page. There is also Saffron’s story, a first-hand account from a participant.
What participants say
I can take bloods without flinching. I feel a lot more confident, I was in complete control of what was going on, and I was able to engage a lot more.
Saffron, midwifery student
Over the five days, I’d say now I definitely don’t feel nearly as scared as I did in the beginning, which is crazy because it was definitely something that was very physical at first, and now it’s a calm feeling, a lot more rational.

Being able to deconstruct the original, immediate panic. Being able to not act. I can look at it and go, oh, you’re just on my desk. Things feel a lot more grounded in reality.
